Rohypnol and GHB

Rohypnol

Rohypnol is known as a "date rape" and "club drug". It is used to incapacitate a victim and incapable of effectively resisting a sexual assault. The drug is typically slipped into a food or drink item, the victim will feel hypnotized, relaxed, and may not even remember the assault. Rohypnol is also known as XTC, Go, X, Adam, Hug Drug, Roofies, Roof, Roach, Rope, and Date Rape drug.

Rohypnol is often dangerously mixed with alcohol and other depressants. Rohypnol is addictive and produces strong withdrawal symptoms. Many abusers end up in the emergency room as a result of the withdrawal symptoms.

Rohypnol became popular in Europe in the 1970's and gained popularity in the United States in the 1990's. Rohypnol is illegal in the United States. It has no approved purpose.

Clonazepam is a closely related drug to rohypnol sold under the name of "roofies". It is commonly used in combination with heroin, in order to enhance the heroin effects. Based on emergency room visits this drug is popular in San Francisco, Phoenix, and LA.

GHB

GHB (gamma- hydroxybutyrate) has been abused in the U.S. since the 1990's. GHB like Rohypnol has been referred to a a date rape drug, since it is used in the perpetuation of sexual assault crimes. GHB has euphoric and sedative qualities, that is most commonly used in nightclub and rave environments.

GHB is also called "liquid ecstasy," "somatomax," "scoop," or "grievous bodily harm."

Side effects of GHB include loss of conscience, coma, and seizures. GHB is often used in combination with other drugs, such as ecstasy and alcohol. When used in combination with ecstasy there is an increased risk of seizure. When used with alcohol nausea and difficulty breathing can develop.

GHB can build up a tolerance within the body and drug addiction can develop. GHB may also produce withdrawal effects, including insomnia, anxiety, tremors, and sweating.

The federal government has become concerned with the use of these drugs in sexual assault crimes. They have research and information available, especially to young women warning them of the dangers. The best prevention is to ensure your food and drink in nightclubs and bars, as well as any social situation is within your site.
